The Queen is understood to be “disappointed” with British Prime Minister Theresa May after she refused to reveal details of how she plans to leave Europe during a visit to Balmoral.

According to a source close the Queen, Mrs May simply stuck to her line of “Brexit means Brexit” during her first trip to the estate in Scotland. Both the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are said to have been unhappy at Mrs May’s refusal to provide any more details about her thought processes for going into negotiations.

However, both Downing Street and Buckingham Palace have refused to comment on speculation. A spokeswoman for the palace said that the Queen would not be disclosing details of discussions which had taken place with her Prime Minister. They dismissed the comments as “conjecture”.

Mrs May has not commented either, but is understood to be irritated by the report, which she does not feel what representative of the talks which had taken place during her two day stay at Balmoral.

First visit

The trip to Balmoral is a traditional annual fixture in prime ministers calendar and is a chance for the monarch to gain an insight into political goings on. Mrs May visited just two months after taking on the top job from David Cameron, who resigned in the wake of the June referendum.

While the Prime Minister had given regular weekly briefings to the Queen, it was the first time the two women had spent an extended period of time together. It may be that Mrs May had only a short amout of time to clarify her own thinking on leaving the European Union at that point.

However, since then, many MPs have been left disgruntled for her refusal to reveal negotiating tactics. The Prime Minister has told MPs that there is no way she will be offering a running commentary on her plans for Brexit. She feels that she does not want to show her hand before triggering Article 50 to begin the formal exit process.
