A recent survey of the top universities in the world ranks the University of the Philippines (UP) at the 367th spot. The Qs World University Rankings that holds annually showed UP taking up a higher place all the way from 374 last year to 367 this year.

According to the QS Research Director, the top Philippine University, UP gained seven seats as against Ateneo de Manila that dropped to the next band. Likewise, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) remains the world’s best university.
De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University and the University of Santo Tomas took the high places in the ranking too. De La Salle University retained its ranking of 701-750, while Ateneo took a spot within 551-600. Then again, the University of Santo Tomas took a position above 701 all the way from 801-1000.

Employer reputation indicator ranking

Sowter said that all the Universities in Filipino ranked in the Employer Reputation Indicator, causing the University of the Philipines takes the 191 spot as regards the beacon. Also, La Salle and Ateneo features among the top 300 universities globally in this indicator.
Sowter further stated that MIT is the center of the unparallel innovative environment, but its dominance should not cause difficulty in understanding changes elsewhere, as other institutions in the Uk and US are swerving for the top Russian, Indian and China universities, as well others.

Basis for the ranking

The just concluded annual ranking was based on the taking of experts on the analysis of about 12.3 million papers, 40,455 employers, 75,015 academics and 75.1 million citations. The QS ranking this year featured 46 more universities, making the sum of 959 schools that were ranked.

Further rankings

According to the QS ranking, UP’s archaeology took a stand at 101–150.
De La Salle language activities were at 151-200, while Ateneo’s Literature and English language ranked 201 – 250. The four universities got five stars in the last four categories, but the University of Santo Tomas got 4 stars on these categories: Internationalization, research, teaching, facilities, employability, specific criteria, inclusiveness and social responsibility. However, all the four universities got a rank of 201+ for employability of graduate.
