The bodies of a woman and two men have been discovered close to cliffs in Dover. Police were called with reports about concerns for the welfare of a man at Langdon Cliffs. But, when officers got there, they found a body at the bottom of cliffs on New Year’s Day.
While carrying out search operations, the coastguard also found the bodies of another man and a woman. Officers say they do not think that all of the deaths are linked. A statement from Kent Police said they were called at 2.27pm on New Year’s Day by someone who was worried bout a man at Langdon Cliffs. The statement added: “Officers attended and the body of a man was subsequently discovered at the bottom of the cliffs by the coastguard. During the search the coastguard also discovered the bodies of a second man and a woman. Officers do not believe their deaths are linked to that of the first man.”
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding all three deaths. As of yet, no details have been released about the causes of death, or who the three people are.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed that it was called at 2.30pm to assist Kent Police in dealing with an incident at the Dover docks area. The coastguard sent two coastguard rescue teams, a lifeboat and search and rescue helicopter.
The UK Coastguard took the main lead in the operation, using a helicopter to winch the man’s body from a ledge on the cliff in Landgon Bay. The other two bodies were found around half a miles away within one of the arms of the harbour. Paramedics were also called to the scene, but were stood down.
Dover MP Charlie Elphicke has reacted with shock at the discoveries. He tweeted that his thoughts were with the families and loves ones of those who had died.
