The victim is understood to have been in the pub, leaving his car outside the Hare and Hounds. When he returned to his vehicle, he was shot, suffering injuries to his face nd had. Detectives think that the gang had followed the elderly man to the pub, before lying in wait for him.

Witnesses

There have been previous similar incidents in the same area, but officers say they are so far keeping an open mind about whether any are linked. They are now urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward as they try to trace all of the suspects.

The incident comes as two men have been jailed for a separate shooting in which a father to be was shot dead in front of his horrified family, Thirty year old Imran Khan was shot in the head in June this year. Now, Ismail Khan, 32, of Masham Place and Amjad Khan, 31, of New Cross Street have been found guilty of murder and told they must serve at lease 30 years in jail.

The shooting was said to be a revenge attack after the victim and one of the defendants were jailed together and struck up a deep seated hatred. While Mr Khan had tried to take a longer route home to avoid his killers, he ended up being fatally injured just before his wife welcomed a new baby to the world.
