The Vikings have skated their way to a 3- 1-1 recorded to start their season. Fans filled the stands to witness the puck drop at Salem State's ice hockey home opener, and first MASCAC contest against Fitchburg State on Nov. 17.

The Vikings beat the Falcons 6-4 where junior goalie Sam Avoine earned his first win of the season with 17 saves. Sophomore Mark McDonald scored twice, while juniors Nick Lampson and Derek Crocker and seniors Giancarlo Capodanno and Nick DelRosso all netted one apiece.

Their only tie of the season came in their second MASCAC game versus UMass- Dartmouth. The Vikings opened the third period with a 3-1 lead on two goals from Lampson and one from Capodanno. However, they could not hold the lead and let up two Corsairs' goals to tie the game.

The Vikings' first loss of the season was also quite painful. Despite them outshooting Amherst College 27-18, they could not find the back of the net and earned their first loss of the season against the Lord Jeffs, 5-1, in the Cape Cod Tournament.

The offensive skill of Lampson and glovework of Avoine will continue to lead the Vikings to more victories in their intense conference game-filled schedule next semester.
