Bernie Sanders has just announced a rather worrisome claim regarding the repeal of President Obama’s healthcare system.
Sanders states that if the Republicans continue in trying to abolish Obamacare, then they must realize first that in doing so, about 36,000 U.S. citizens will die every year as a direct result of such an action.
According to statistics which were published, in 2015 over 2.6 million U.S. citizens had died, which averages to about 7,200 deaths daily.
With these numbers in mind, Sanders states that a complete abolishment of the Affordable Care Act will only increase these deaths by about 1.4 percent.
Study the Facts First
Sanders was able to get a hold of the 36,000 deaths calculated claim thanks to ThinkProgress, a website who hold left-winged views.
ThinkProgress have taken a thorough examination into this matter, and came out with some unknown factors to the matter.
According to ThinkProgress, they have safely predicted that if Obamacare is discarded completely, then over 29.8 U.S. citizens will lose their health insurance.
This loss will then result in at least one citizen per 830 citizens in dying from those who have lost their medical insurances. With these calculations in mind, the number of deaths skyrocketed up to 35,903 expected deaths yearly.
A Trustworthy Source?
President Obama and his administration claim that over 20 million U.S. citizens have received health insurance due to the Affordable Care Act.
It was then revealed that the majority of the insurance actually derives directly from Medicaid. However, it is not concluded that absolutely every American citizen will indeed lose their insurance if Obamacare was to be repealed.
This is due to the fact that according to reports, about 30 percent of U.S. citizens who hold insurances were already deemed fit for insurance due to Medicaid.
A theory known as the ‘woodworker’ effect states that if Medicaid was also to be abolished, those who were deemed eligible for insurance by Medicaid would apparently still be possessing it.
