One lucky person in California had all the numbers that won the Jackpot drawn on Saturday’s Powerball drawing, lottery officials stated.
The jackpot value estimation stood at $447.8 million grand prizes.
The winning numbers were 20, 26, 32, 38, 58 and the Powerball was 3.
It has not been revealed yet whether the player from California was the only grand prize winner or other player had matching winning numbers as well.
Seventh Largest Of All Time
The massive jackpot is ranked the seventh in the largest awarded US lottery prize list of all time in the United States, the list includes Mega Millions and Powerball winnings as well, the U.S.’s two largest games. Saturday night’s toll exceeds the $435 million a jackpot, an Indiana person claimed in February, adding that the winner always needs to protect her or his real identity.
Saturday’s $447.8 million prize implies that six of the 10 most huge and well-known Powerball jackpots ever have happened since the beginning of 2016.
The reason behind such notion is that Powerball modified its system and formula in October 2015 so the players can have more numbers from which they would choose.
Of course, adding more numbers raises the chances of winning and increases the odds of a winner. The odds of winning Powerball are now 1 in 292 million or 0.0000003%. Before changing the formula, the Powerball odds were 1 in 175 million.
The largest jackpot ever happened in January 2016, soon after the odds increased; the payout hit a record $1.6 billion. It was the first and only time it has soared past billion dollar mark. The Powerball prize also soared past $400 million in May, July and November of last year, alongside the $435 prize in February.
The Mega Millions game has only had four jackpots in its record that soared past $400 million. One of the biggest payouts in history was a $536 million jackpot which took place last year.
