A Muslim woman loses her unborn twins when an islamophobic homeless man kicked her in the stomach. The man was subsequently charged with racially aggravated assault.
David Gallacher, a 37-year-old islamophobic homeless man, was charged with racially aggravated assault after he kicked a Muslim woman in the stomach, causing her to lose her unborn twins.
Gallacher, not knowing the woman was pregnant, reportedly kicked her in the stomach outside a Co-op store in Bletchley last August. According to Thames Valley Police, Gallacher also attacked a man who tried to intervene.
The woman was taken to the hospital and was told that she was pregnant with twins. However, days later she was told that she had lost them both.
The Muslim woman, a mother of four who chose to remain anonymous, reportedly fled her home in fear because of this assault.
David Gallacher is expected to appear at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on March 14th. He has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of assault by beating, two counts of racially aggravated assault and three accounts of assaulting a police officer.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: “The charges relate to two incidents. The first was on Saturday 6 August 2016, when two victims, a 34-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man were assaulted and racially abused by a man near the Co-op on Water Eaton Road, Bletchley.” The second incident was reportedly on September 14th “when three police officers were assaulted as they arrested a man.”
Criticisms of the Case
Some community leaders had criticized the way the police handled the situation, since it took them over a month to release CCTV images of the attacker.
As soon as the pictures were published, local people had named and located Gallacher and reported back to the police. The arrest took place immediately after.
In response to the criticism, the police said “obtaining and viewing such footage can take time.”
