Muslim Americans decided to set up funds to show support to the families of the three victims who took a stand against the Islamophobic attacker who assaulted two Muslim women on a train in Portland, Oregon over the Memorial Day weekend.

Jeremy Christian, 35, who is the alleged Islamophobic attacker, was throwing racial and Islamophobic oaths at two Muslim women, one of them was wearing hijab, on the light-rail train on May 26 till three men stepped in. The three men identified are Rick John Best, 53, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche, 23, and Micah Fletcher, 21.

The alleged attacker purportedly stabbed all the three victims in the neck, leaving Best and Namkai-Meche killed and Fleture injured.

As a result, Muslim American of LaunchGood organisation have taken a step to raise money to help the family of the victims; Muslim Education Trust and CelebrateMercy fund set up raised over $500,000 a few days after the attack.

The organisation stated, “We wish to respond to hate with love, to evil with good, as our faith instructs us, and send a powerful message of compassion through action.”

The LaunchGood organisers acknowledged that money would never bring those who lost their lives, Best and Namkai-Meche, back. “But we do hope to lessen their families’ burdens in some way and also show our heartfelt appreciation for their heroic acts against Islamophobia,” they wrote. “Let’s all stand together against hate.”


Christian has long been known for hating on Muslims and holding racial and white supremacist views. Currently, he is charged with two counts of aggravated murder and one count of attempted aggravated murder. Furthermore, he is accused of conducting a first-degree assault and second-degree intimidation as well as possessing unlawful use of a weapon.

Christian was purportedly shouting racial oaths in the court on Tuesday, yelling, “Death to the enemies of America,” he reportedly shouted in a court hearing on Tuesday. “Leave this country if you hate our freedom. Death to Antifa! You call it terrorism. I call it patriotism! You hear me? Die.
