The Hungarian Hollywood star Zsa Zsa Gabor died of a heart attack in her Los Angeles home, according to her husband Federic von Anhalt.

“We tried everything, but her heart just stopped and that was it,” he said. “Even the ambulance tried very hard to get her back, but there was no way.”

In the past few years of her life, she had been suffering with a series of health problems. In 2002, she was partially paralyzed after being in a car accident, and has been in a wheelchair ever since.

In 2005, she had a stroke, and in 2010, she broke her hip from a fall while trying to get out of her bed into her wheelchair.

She was then hospitalized, and due to bad blood circulation and the development of gangrene, she had to have her leg partially amputated.

In the last few months before her heart attack, she had been given several blood transfusions and was getting her nutrition through a feeding tube.

Since her stroke, Gabor refrained from being seen in public. “She wants people to remember her as she as years ago,” sad Federic.

Zsa Zsa was known for her movies in the 1950’s including Queen of Outer Space and Moulin Rouge, but was gained a lot of publicity through the tabloids.

She was famous for her extravagant lifestyle and for having a series of marriages with nine wealthy men including: Conrad Hilton, the Hilton hotel chain founder and Barbie doll creator Jack Ryan.

Friends and fans took to twitter in tribute to her memory:

Barbara Eden: “Rest in peace Zsa Zsa Gabor. She and her sisters were lovely ladies who were always fun and delightful to be around.”

Piers Morgan: “RIP Zsa Zsa Gabor. 99 years old, 9 husbands, Miss Hungary & Hollywood star. What a life!”

Larry King: “There will only be one Zsa Zsa Gabor. And I liked her a lot. Rest in Peace, my dear.”
