Commentators say Princess Diana could have ended up as Donald Trump’s First Lady if circumstances had ended up differently. The President-elect described the princess as a “Dream Lady” after meeting her at a charity dinner.
She caught his eye at the $1,000-a-plate dinner in 1995 when she was seated at Mr Trump’s table. She had been wearing a low-cut velvet dress with diamond and pearl drop earrings as 900 of New York’s elite came together.
While Mr Trump was with his second wife Marla, he did not fail to notice the British princess. Princess Diana had already met the entrepreneur at a number of events and had already turned down his offer of membership at his Florida country club, Mar-a-lago.
Later, writing in his book, The Art of The Comeback, Mr Trump said: “I couldn’t help but notice how she moved people. She lit up the room. Her charm. Her presence. She was a genuine princess — a dream lady.”
After Princess Diana and Prince Charles were divorced over allegations that he was having an affair with his now wife Camilla, Mr Trump send her a huge basket of flowers, for her 35th birthday.
While he had previously said that it was “check out time” for women once they hit 35, he clearly wanted to make an exception to his rule with Princess Diana. Commentators have now pointed out that history may have been changed if she had decided to go out with him. It might have been that she was about to move into the White House as First Lady, never having gone on to date Dodi Fayed, with whom she died in a car crash in Paris, being chased by photographers.
However, Princess Diana was said to find Mr Trump creepy and he has since spoken about her with much less repect than he did in his book, claiming that he could have slept with her.
