Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) is pushing into the video content segment with full force of late. This is becoming increasingly apparent over time, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg claiming that it was an increasing growth area with extremely high engagement levels for users compared to other content mediums.
Facebook has pushed out its Birthday Cam, attempting to give both, a personal touch as well as a boost to user interactions for its mobile users. The Birthday Cam is currently only available on iOS, with an Android variant expected to follow suit soon.
The Birthday Cam essentially lets users who are celebrating their birthday to have a unique banner displayed for them, while enabling users wanting to wish them a happy birthday to record a birthday video as long as 15 seconds, thus giving a personal touch.
Facebook has not, however, left its Android version behind; it seems the social media giant is releasing updates on both platforms in a staggered fashion with Android being the first to get access to features such as multiple account logins via Facebook Messenger.
Facebook’s Birthday Cam feature is expected to be available as part of an update to its iOS variant on Feb 29, while there is no official release date for the Android version yet. While Facebook has significantly higher engagement rates than its competitors such as Twitter, it is attempting to connect and engage users even further of late, and the Birthday Cam might just add another thrust to achieving this goal.
