SMITE is, without a doubt, one of the popular games in the world of competitive gaming today. The Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game has been widely adopted and has managed to build up a huge player base ever since its release back in Match 2014. However, the game, developed by Hi-Rez Studios, had been an exclusive to Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) platforms, which basically meant that the game was only available to player on either the Xbox One and Windows PC. But that has now changed and it looks like the game is set to release on Sony Corp.’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4.
According to an official announcement by Sony over at the PlayStation Blog, SMITE: Battleground of the Gods has entered closed Alpha stage and testing for the game has begun today. The post mentions that those who are interested in the Beta can sign up over at the official website for the game and that lucky players are going to receive invitations to test out the game before its release in the upcoming closed beta.
As always, the game has been one of the free-to-play ones and the PlayStation 4 version of the game is not going to be any different. However, the post mentions a Founder Pack, which players are going to be able to purchase for $29.99, which is going to unlock all of the present and upcoming Gods in the game along with 400 gems; the Ares Soldier of Fortune skin with an instant access key to the upcoming beta.
The post also mentions that those who buy the Founder’s Pack are going to receive another skin by the name of Ymir’s ‘C4codemon’. There are other skins that are going to be provided exclusively to PlayStation 4 players, while the Kulkulkan’s “KuKu4” skin is going to be available exclusively to PlayStation Plus members only.
For those who are not willing to shell out cash on the game, there is a free rotation of gods that is available to non-paying members along with the five free gods that are usually available in the game. As always, additional gods can be unlocked by either Gems, Favor or via special timed events.
SMITE boasts an eSports player base which is worth more than $700 million, as per reports. The game’s release on the PlayStation 4 is going to help the player base grow even more, helping the game compete other major MOBA games such as League of Legends and Dota 2. The game was originally developed for Windows PC and Xbox One and now that the exclusivity deal with Microsoft has ended, the game is going to be available on the PlayStation 4 as well.
What is to be noted from that is the game might not run as expected when it releases, something which has been the industry standard in the eighth console generation. However, until the game is actually released, we can only speculate on the case. Interestingly, there was no release date announced for SMITE on the PlayStation 4.
