Ubisoft’s latest primitive, stone-age survival game Far Cry Primal takes the top spot in the UK All-format Charts, managing to outsell all the competition in its debut week. Released earlier this week to consoles, Far Cry Primal involves the same high-paced action made popular by the iconic franchise; but this time around, players have to progress without using any guns. Instead, they have at their disposal several pre-historic weapons and tools that are to be used alongside powers that you can use to tame wild animals and get them to do your bidding.
Being one of the most anticipated games of this year and the only Far Cry that has every been released without a fully automatic rifle or a rocket launcher, Primal has been causing a great stir since its unveiling. One of the most intriguing features of the game has been replaced with a brand new concept for the franchise and has managed to generate massive hype. It’s possible that this may be the driving force behind the massive success being witnessed in the sales charts today. Far Cry Primal managed to outsell games like Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare, FIFA 2016 and COD: BO3.
Even games that were just released, like Street Fighter 5, didn’t manage to retain its position, sliding down to the tenth spot while the chart still boasted a place for Rockstar Games’ GTA V – still managing to bring in the number after almost 3 years past its release. Some other familiar names released around this time are also visible in the list, with games like Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4 and Rainbow 6: Siege – all massive names pushed slightly down the order by the massively popular Far Cry Primal. It’s easy to see why though; every fan of the franchise will be buying Primal purely to be a part of a change that will represent the first marginal shift of game play within the Fry Cry legacy.
